“UP IN THE AIR” SPECIAL SHOWING

Bahamas International Film Festival and Bahamas Millennials Society teamed up to present a Night at the Movies in Galleria Cinemas JFK.

Nassau - (July 13, 2015) Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) and Bahamas Millennials Society (BMS) invites everyone to a Night at the Movies on Tuesday July 28 at Galleria Cinemas JFK with a cocktail reception at 6:00 pm and the showing of the movie Up in the Air at 7:30 pm.

“We truly enjoy teaming up with progressive organizations that always look for ways to create unique opportunities for others. Our collaborative effort will impact the millenials, an important part of our community that bring new tendencies to Cinema with creative ways of presenting films and tell stories. They represent the present and future of films and we believe that with our experienced group of professionals and mentors we can give them the tools to succeed in the constantly evolving film industry”, said the Founder and Executive Director of BIFF, Leslie Vanderpool.

The movie, directed by Jason Reitman, brings the story of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), who enjoys his job traveling around the U.S. firing people, but finds that lifestyle threatened by the presence of a new hire and a potential love interest. Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Jason Bateman also work in this drama.

The attendees of the event,  co-sponsored by Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) and Galleria Cinemas, will have the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail reception for $10, followed by the showing of the film.

The Bahamas Millennials Society, BIFF and BFSB are collaborating to engage Bahamians in events like this, created with their common objectives of exposure, networking and mentorship.

“We are between the ages of 20 and 35. We grew up feeling truly at home in the technological age with a mastery of all media, particularly social media. We’re civic minded and philanthropic. We have high expectations of employers and of Government and we want to work for organizations that support innovation. We present both a challenge and opportunity for workplaces, at once trying to integrate and accommodate us as well as to motivate a generation with a more nuanced core philosophy. We are the untapped next-generation client for wealth management firms and private banks. We’re the next generation advisors. We’re the future of the financial services industry in The Bahamas. We’re millennials and we are ready to soar,” said BMS.

BFSB will seek mentors from industry and millennials to take part in a formal mentorship program. Mentors may be from different institutions and different sub-sectors from Mentees but they will be matched on the basis of the Mentee’s goals and the Mentor’s relevant experience to assist with meeting them.
